Egypt Welcomes France's Announcement to Recognize the State of Palestine
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement of his country's intention to recognize the State of Palestine, expressing its appreciation for this landmark step in support of international efforts aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967, borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' statement called on all countries that have not yet made this decision to recognize the State of Palestine, affirming the international community's commitment to reaching a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue, contributing to consolidating the principles of peace and justice, and supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to self-determination.
The statement also stressed "the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to end the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people, noting the moral and legal responsibility of all members of the international community and the Security Council to intervene to stop the practices, crimes, and starvation policy perpetrated by the Israeli occupation army in the occupied Palestinian territories, thus contributing to the preservation of regional and international peace and security."
On Thursday, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that his country would officially recognize a Palestinian state during the UN General Assembly meetings next September, expressing his hope that this step would contribute to enhancing the chances of achieving peace in the Middle East. In an official letter addressed to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, published on the X platform, Macron affirmed that his country would thus become the first major Western power to officially recognize the Palestinian state.
