The UAE Provides 3,000 Food Baskets to Sudanese Refugees in Chad

The UAE has implemented a new humanitarian initiative in the Republic of Chad to support Sudanese refugees. Three thousand food baskets were distributed in the Douki, Alasha, and Abu Qadam camps, in addition to dispatching a field medical team to provide healthcare in the Abu Qadam camp.

This project was implemented in coordination with the Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity, and Humanitarian Affairs and the National Committee for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees in Chad, as part of joint cooperation to alleviate the suffering of refugees and meet their basic needs.

Fifteen thousand Sudanese refugees benefited from this relief project, distributed across three main camps. 1,500 food baskets were distributed in Douki camp, benefiting 7,500 people. 1,300 baskets were distributed in Alasha camp, benefiting 6,500 people. 200 food baskets were distributed in Abu Qadam camp, benefiting 1,000 people. The aim was to meet the needs of these families for a full month, ensuring enhanced food security and improving living conditions in the targeted camps.

The initiative also saw the dispatch of a medical team to Abu Qadam camp to provide care and medical services to the refugees, helping meet a fundamental aspect of their humanitarian needs amid the difficult conditions they face.

Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Chad, said: "This initiative is an extension of the UAE's humanitarian and development approach, which places people at the heart of its priorities and affirms the country's unwavering commitment to assisting those affected by crises and conflicts, especially in areas experiencing mass displacement and dire humanitarian conditions."

Al Shamsi added: "The project reflects the UAE's ongoing and tireless efforts to support the social and economic stability of the local population in Chad. Such initiatives contribute to strengthening social cohesion and human solidarity by providing essential supplies that ensure a decent living in the face of regional refugee challenges. It also supports refugee issues in various regions of the world and works to improve their humanitarian and living conditions, whether through direct support or through cooperation with international organizations."

It is worth noting that the UAE has built three hospitals for Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries. It built two field hospitals in the cities of Amdjaras and Abéché in Chad, and Madhool Hospital in the Republic of South Sudan, as part of the country's efforts to provide medical services to Sudanese refugees.
