A Sustainable Digital Future... A Tripartite Partnership to Promote AI in Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Presight and AIQ. The agreement aims to provide the department with leading solutions in artificial intelligence and digital transformation, as well as to develop a global data center for the emirate's energy sector.

The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdullah Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, during the World Utilities Congress 2025, currently being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. The agreement was signed by Eng.

Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy; Dr. Adel Al Sharji, Chief Operating Officer of Presight; and Dr. Adel Bin Subaih, Chief Operating Officer of AIQ. The signing ceremony was attended by a number of senior officials, experts, and representatives from participating entities.

Under the agreement, the three parties will develop a leading AI-powered control center platform (AD.WE) that provides real-time analytics for the energy and services sector in Abu Dhabi. It also includes the launch of an AI-as-a-Service lab, enabling Abu Dhabi energy companies to test, validate, and deploy AI solutions within their operations to support various use cases.

The agreement also includes the establishment of a central data center that consolidates all data under the umbrella of the Department of Energy and sector companies, providing a unified and reliable source of data. It will also include the development of a government data and AI center for the energy sector to build an integrated system that enables Abu Dhabi energy companies to organize, access, and exchange their data in a secure environment, and to use customized AI models to support workflow and enhance operational efficiency.

The agreement stipulates cooperation in research, development, and capacity building, through organizing workshops, training courses, and seminars aimed at qualifying and empowering DoE employees to use AI applications in their daily tasks. It also includes providing support in areas of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibilities through AI-based solutions that enhance sustainability and improve operational efficiency.

Dr. Abdullah Al Jarwan emphasized that this partnership offers a distinguished set of innovative solutions based on artificial intelligence technologies, contributing to achieving added value in the water, electricity, district cooling, and petroleum products sectors.

He stated that this partnership relies on an advanced AI infrastructure, bringing together all the required qualified expertise and providing all the modern tools and technologies needed to create exceptional solutions, setting it apart from other partnerships in this field.

He described the vast amount of information provided by the sector as rich and important, dating back to 1958. This contributes to enhancing the use of historical data to develop smart and effective solutions that meet the requirements of the next phase.

Regarding the AD.WE platform, he explained that it represents a pioneering step toward an integrated future for energy management and a qualitative leap in how artificial intelligence and advanced digital modeling can be employed to achieve efficiency and sustainability across various energy sources.

He said, "We developed this advanced platform in collaboration with Presight to serve as a unified command center linking the electricity and water sectors and managing the emirate's energy system with high efficiency and reliability."

Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, emphasized that the agreement represents an important strategic milestone in the digital transformation of the energy sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Through this agreement, we are working to employ advanced artificial intelligence solutions to enhance our ability to accurately and comprehensively monitor and analyze the energy system and facilities, supporting operational efficiency and data-driven decision-making
