IMF Helps Syria Reintegrate into Global Economy
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said the Fund intends to work with Syria to help it re-engage with the global economy, referring to a meeting held this week on Syria.
Georgieva explained on that the Syrian Central Bank Governor and Finance Minister are attending the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings this week for the first time in more than 20 years. "Our goal, first and foremost, is to help them rebuild their institutions so they can re-engage with the global economy," she added, according to Reuters.
On the sidelines of the meetings in Washington, officials from the two international financial institutions met with Syrian officials, other finance ministers, and key stakeholders to discuss Syria's reconstruction. The high-level Syrian government delegation's visit to Washington is the first by officials from the new US administration since the ouster of former President Bashar al-Assad last Decembe
