The UAE remains a key player in foreign aid

In 2024, the UAE continued to be a global leader in humanitarian assistance, underscoring its deep commitment to promoting international solidarity and cooperation.

The UAE's humanitarian efforts have become a hallmark of its foreign policy, characterised by its dedication to alleviating poverty, addressing crises, supporting sustainable development, and promoting peace and stability worldwide.

As the UAE celebrated the 53rd anniversary of Eid Al Etihad on December 2nd, the nation reflected on its long-standing contributions to global humanitarian initiatives.

Since its founding in 1971, the UAE has allocated over AED 360 billion (US$98 billion) in foreign aid, significantly impacting countries and communities facing poverty, disaster, and conflict.

The UAE has also played a pivotal role in providing immediate assistance to nations experiencing crises:

Gaza: President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan authorized the provision of medical treatment for 1,000 injured children and 1,000 cancer patients from Gaza. Additionally, the UAE Ministry of Defence launched the “Birds of Goodness” operation to deliver essential humanitarian aid to Gaza. The UAE’s unwavering support also included an urgent US$100 million relief package for Lebanon amid ongoing regional tensions.

Lebanon: The UAE continued its “UAE stands with Lebanon” campaign, delivering 40 tonnes of medical supplies in its 18th aircraft mission and dispatching an aid ship with 2,000 tonnes of critical relief. An additional US$30 million in support was sent to displaced Lebanese citizens in Syria.

Sudan: The UAE pledged US$100 million in humanitarian aid to Sudan and its neighboring countries and launched projects worth US$10.25 million for women affected by conflict in Sudan. Furthermore, the UAE contributed US$50 million to the second phase of the Lives and Livelihoods Fund (LLF 2.0), which helps lift millions out of poverty in IsDB member countries.

The UAE’s humanitarian outreach extends to countries across the globe. The nation has provided relief to regions affected by natural disasters, including Burkina Faso, Brazil, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and many others.

As it continues to expand its humanitarian efforts, the UAE remains a key player in promoting global stability and development.
