The UAE Renews its Commitment to Women's Empowerment, Gender Equality, and Child Protection

The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women, promoting gender equality, and protecting children's rights.

This came in a statement delivered by Ambassador Jamal Al Musharrakh, the UAE's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, before the 61st session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

He stated that the UAE continues to promote human rights, empower women, enhance their leadership role, and consolidate gender equality, thereby strengthening the full protection of the rights of women and girls and safeguarding and supporting children's rights. Based on this commitment, the UAE looks forward to its membership in the Human Rights Council for the period 2028-2030.

He added that the UAE affirms that protecting human rights is a collective responsibility that requires multilateral action based on dialogue and mutual respect to confront extremist ideology and hate speech, and to adopt effective measures, especially in light of escalating crises.

He emphasized that the UAE remains committed to supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza and addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis in the Strip. He said: “During the Peace Council, my country announced an additional $1.2 billion in support for Gaza, making the UAE the leading donor to Gaza.”

He added that the UAE continues to pursue a sincere and effective humanitarian diplomacy, which, through successive mediations, has contributed to the successful exchange of thousands of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine, thus solidifying the UAE’s position as a trusted mediator with the confidence of all parties.

He emphasized that, amidst international efforts to find a solution to the catastrophic civil war in Sudan, one of the warring parties, responsible for atrocities, continues to use this platform to level baseless accusations against my country and UN mechanisms, including the efforts of the Quartet.
