Emirates Red Crescent Launches 14th Cycle of the Aoun Award for Community Service


The Emirates Red Crescent Authority announced the launch of the 14th cycle of the Aoun Award for Community ServiceThe Aoun Award for Community Service, open to educational and training institutions across the UAE for the 2025-2026 academic year.


 focuses on a number of humanitarian and social fields that serve important segments of society, such as low-income families, orphans, people of determination, and senior citizens. It supports initiatives that serve the community, with educational institutions, from kindergartens to universities and centers for people of determination, competing to achieve these goals.


During a press conference held today at the Authority's headquarters in Abu Dhabi, Omair Mohammed Al Muhairi, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs at the Authority, emphasized the senior leadership's commitment to the Aoun Award for Community Service. 


He stated that the award aims to strengthen social responsibility across all educational institutions, fostering a spirit of volunteerism, humanitarianism, and philanthropy among students. It encourages a competitive spirit, a willingness to lend a helping hand, and support for those in need. 


Furthermore, the award prepares the student body to actively contribute to diverse humanitarian and charitable programs and activities that enhance their efforts, serve their community and nation, and reinforce their national identity. It also deepens students' sense of self-motivation and encourages their participation in various activities.


Al Muhairi added that the Aoun Award for Community Service programs were distinguished by their diversity and innovation. In the previous cycle, 342 student volunteer events and initiatives took place, with 331 schools participating, along with six universities and six centers for people of determination. 


The student Red Crescent team comprised 83,637 students across all schools in the UAE. A total of 131 schools won at the local level, and 24 schools won at the national level. There were also 78 winning categories at the local level, and 250,911 volunteer hours were recorded.


The Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs expressed his hope that the current cycle of the award would be even more distinguished in terms of participation and the desired outcomes. He thanked the Red Crescent's partners in organizing the Aoun Award for Community Service, which include the Ministry of Education, the Department of Education and Knowledge, the Zayed Authority for People of Determination, and the Sharjah Private Education Authority.


Mubarak Ali Al Hammadi, Director of the Quality of Life Department at the Ministry of Education, praised the efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority and its commitment to launching the award, providing students with the opportunity to become active contributors to their community and country, and upholding the UAE's noble humanitarian mission. He emphasized the Ministry's commitment to building bridges of cooperation with all relevant bodies and entities to achieve this goal.


Maryam Boushabs, Director of the Care and Activities Department at the Sharjah Private Education Authority, commended the significant efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent in organizing this award, which reflects its unwavering commitment to supporting the values ​​of humanitarian and volunteer work and instilling a culture of giving in future generations.


She added that the importance of volunteer work for students lies in its active role in developing their well-rounded personalities. It contributes to boosting self-confidence, honing life skills, fostering a sense of initiative, and instilling values ​​of empathy and social solidarity. 


It also prepares students to assume responsibility and cultivates leadership and teamwork skills, which positively impacts their academic and social behavior.
