Coffee or Tea… Which is Better for Your Health?


Both coffee and tea are among the most consumed beverages worldwide, not only for their distinctive taste but also for containing beneficial natural compounds that may help prevent chronic diseases such as cancer and diabetes.


But the question that concerns many is: Which of the two drinks is better for your health?

Numerous studies agree that moderate and regular consumption of coffee or tea can extend lifespan and reduce the risk of premature death. Both beverages are rich in antioxidants and plant compounds that fight inflammation, support immunity, and reduce the risk of heart and brain diseases, according to the scientific journal Health.


In a study published in 2023, it was found that people who drank two cups of coffee and two cups of tea daily were 21% less likely to die from cancer. Those who drank three cups of tea and four cups of coffee saw a 24% reduction in their risk of death.


Coffee: Instant Energy and Liver Protection


Coffee and tea are among the most consumed beverages worldwide, not only for their taste but also for their beneficial compounds that help protect against diseases like cancer and diabetes.


A cup of coffee contains about 92 milligrams of caffeine, almost double that of tea, making coffee more effective at improving focus, athletic performance, reaction time, and energy. Research also indicates that coffee protects against liver diseases such as cirrhosis and fatty liver disease, and may even reduce the risk of liver cancer by up to 30%.


Tea: Mental Clarity and Psychological Well-being


Tea, especially green tea, is distinguished by its L-theanine content, an amino acid known for its ability to reduce stress and anxiety and improve mood. A recent medical review showed that people who drink tea regularly have a 34% lower risk of developing depression. Green tea also helps lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, which has a positive impact on cardiovascular health.


Beware of Excess


Despite their benefits, excessive caffeine consumption can lead to health problems such as anxiety, rapid heartbeat, high blood pressure, headaches or insomnia, and complications during pregnancy. Therefore, experts recommend that adults limit their daily caffeine intake to 400 milligrams (about four cups of coffee or eight cups of black tea) and pregnant women to just 200 milligrams.


Balance is Key


While coffee provides an instant energy boost and supports liver health, tea offers mental relaxation and heart protection. The best option? Simply moderation in both. Coffee and tea together can be an ideal combination for better health and a longer life.
