Spy Wars: A Race to Steal Artificial Intelligence Secrets!
Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, warned of the danger of foreign powers, led by China, spying to steal artificial intelligence secrets worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Amodei called for urgent US government intervention to strengthen cybersecurity in this sensitive sector. Speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations, Amodei noted that China is known for its "large-scale industrial espionage."
He confirmed that American AI companies, including Anthropic, have become a prime target for these operations, according to a report published by TechCrunch. Amodei said: "Many algorithmic secrets, worth up to $100 million, could be just a few lines of code, and I'm sure someone is trying to steal them, and they may succeed."
Security Concerns and Calls for Government Intervention
Amoudi called on the US government to take strict measures to protect AI technology from falling into the hands of hostile actors, but did not specify the precise nature of the intervention required.
Anthropic presented its recommendations to the White House to enhance cooperation between the government and industry leaders in the field of cybersecurity, noting the need to involve US intelligence agencies and their allies in protecting leading AI labs.
A Global Race Threatens Technological Balance
Amoudi's position is consistent with his previous calls for strict restrictions on the export of AI chips to China, especially after tests conducted by Anthropic showed worrying performance of Chinese AI on sensitive issues such as the security of biological weapons data.
However, these positions have been met with criticism within the AI community, with some believing that cooperation between the US and China is necessary to prevent a technological arms race that could lead to the development of super-powerful AI systems beyond human control.
