Since its inauguration a year ago, the Emirati Floating Hospital in the Egyptian city of Arish has provided treatment services to more than 7,700 medical cases, performed more than 2,700 surgeries in various specialties, in addition to providing more than 3,000 physiotherapy sessions, and installing 23 prosthetic limbs for displaced Palestinian brothers from the Gaza Strip.
The Emirati Floating Hospital began its work on February 24, 2024 in the international port of Arish in the Arab Republic of Egypt. It is the pioneering humanitarian project launched by the UAE as part of Operation “Gallant Knight 3” under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him.”
The hospital has become a symbol of the UAE’s solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, as it continues to provide comprehensive healthcare to patients and the injured around the clock. This hospital comes as part of the "Gallant Knight 3" humanitarian operation, launched by the UAE with the aim of alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians and providing them with comprehensive healthcare.
The hospital includes an Emirati medical and administrative staff from various specialties, with a capacity of 100 beds for patients, in addition to 100 for their companions, with advanced medical equipment including operating rooms, intensive care, radiology departments and laboratories.
In addition to the Emirati staff, an Indonesian medical team participates in providing healthcare inside the hospital, including doctors and surgeons specialized in various fields, which enhances the hospital's ability to deal with critical cases, especially in the fields of surgery and physiotherapy.
During the past year, the medical staff succeeded in performing qualitative and complex surgeries, including laparoscopic surgeries for patients suffering from complex injuries. The hospital has witnessed successive expansions, the most important of which is the opening of a physiotherapy department to provide the best healthcare services for patients and the injured.
The hospital has the capacity to perform up to 15 surgeries per day, in addition to providing up to 25 physiotherapy sessions per day. Since the opening of the physiotherapy department, more than 3,000 physiotherapy sessions have been provided, helping patients regain their mobility and improve their quality of life.
Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Director of the Emirates Floating Hospital, stressed that the hospital played a pivotal role in providing advanced medical care to displaced Palestinian brothers from the Gaza Strip, in implementation of the directives of the wise leadership and the UAE’s commitment to stand by them in these difficult circumstances.
He said: “Thanks to the efforts of specialized medical teams and modern equipment, we were able to treat thousands of patients and perform hundreds of critical surgeries, and we will certainly continue to work tirelessly to ensure the provision of the best medical and humanitarian services, in the belief in our mission to alleviate the suffering of the injured and enhance hope for recovery.”
The Emirates Floating Hospital was keen to organize various social and recreational activities to entertain the injured and alleviate their psychological suffering, which included entertainment shows for children, and recreational activities aimed at promoting the spirit of hope and recovery among the injured.
During the past year, the hospital witnessed official visits from medical and humanitarian delegations, in addition to Emirati and international officials, with the aim of reviewing the progress of work and supporting the medical efforts provided to patients.
