The UAE is a global model for promoting the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence
The UAE is a global model for promoting the values of tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity. It has adopted a comprehensive approach embodied in its humanitarian and social policies and initiatives, which have positively impacted not only its local community but also various parts of the world.
In 2019, the UAE declared the "Year of Tolerance," during which a series of initiatives and projects were implemented to promote the values of tolerance across the country. This included cultural, social, and educational events that advocate for coexistence among different nationalities and cultures.
The Year of Tolerance focused on five main themes:
1. Deepening the values of tolerance and openness to cultures and peoples within society by emphasizing these values among new generations.
2. Consolidating the UAE's position as a global capital of tolerance through a series of major initiatives and projects, including research contributions and specialized social studies on intercultural dialogue.
3. Cultural tolerance through a variety of community and cultural initiatives.
4. Proposing legislation and policies aimed at promoting the values of cultural, religious, and social tolerance.
5. Promoting the discourse of tolerance and acceptance of others through targeted media initiatives.
Ministry and National Program
Established in 2016, the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence is one of the most important government entities working to support and achieve the UAE's vision of promoting the values of shared tolerance, as well as raising awareness to combat religious extremism. It launches and supports initiatives and programs that foster understanding and peace among individuals and diverse groups within Emirati society.
The country also adopted the National Tolerance Program, which established the values of tolerance in Emirati society. It is based on seven main pillars: Islam, the UAE Constitution, Zayed's legacy and Emirati ethics, international conventions, archaeology and history, human nature, and shared values.
