Emirates Global Aluminium Delivers First Shipment of Clean Electricity Aluminium to Egypt
Emirates Global Aluminium, in partnership with the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), has announced the delivery of the first shipment of locally produced aluminum using clean electricity provided by the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the Al Dhafra Region.
This product, marketed under the name "MinimAL," is a low-carbon aluminum, reinforcing the UAE's position as a reliable source of sustainable industrial materials. "MinimAL" will be supplied to Canex Aluminium Extrusions in Egypt, which will use it to manufacture products for infrastructure, solar energy, transportation, and architectural applications, reflecting the growing global interest in low-carbon manufacturing materials.
The Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, operated by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), generates clean and safe electricity around the clock, a key driver in reducing the carbon footprint of the national industry, especially since aluminum production contributes to approximately 60% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), said: “The world is witnessing growing demand for low-carbon aluminum, which is expected to triple by 2040. With the Minimal product, we are strengthening our position as a partner for more sustainable industries, driven by the UAE’s vision and investment in nuclear energy.”
H.E. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), emphasized that this cooperation reflects the vital role of nuclear energy in supporting energy security and reducing emissions. He noted that the Barakah plants provide the equivalent of 25% of the country’s annual electricity needs and contribute to reducing 22.4 million tons of emissions annually. Nuclear energy is certified under the country's Clean Energy Certificates program using I-REC protocols to ensure transparency and traceability, while the Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) supplies this electricity via the national grid.
Emirates Global Aluminium is the world's first solar-powered aluminum producer and has previously launched CelestiAL. It currently produces recycled aluminum under the name RevivAL and is building the largest recycling plant in Al Taweelah, scheduled to begin operations in the first half of 2026.
