German coach Klopp: Salah is a historic player and a fantastic ambassador for Egypt
German coach Jürgen Klopp described Egyptian star Mohamed Salah as one of Liverpool's greatest players of all time, noting that he is "a fantastic ambassador for his country."
Salah announced last Tuesday that he will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current season, having scored 255 goals in 435 appearances for the club across all competitions, placing him third on the club's all-time top scorers list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt.
Klopp, who returned to Liverpool to attend a charity match at Anfield where Liverpool legends will face Borussia Dortmund legends, said: "Salah is among the best players. I can't really compare him to others; I can only compare him to the players I've worked with. But in my time at Liverpool, since I started working with the club, he has been one of the greatest players."
He continued: "I don't need to say it because you can read the numbers and you'll know how special he is. He's a fantastic ambassador for his country and for the entire region." He concluded: “Mohamed is a fantastic and highly competitive person with great enthusiasm. He knows we went through some tough times together, but we bounced back quickly because we both wanted the same thing: the best for our team.”
Salah, who has not revealed his next destination, joined Liverpool in 2017 from AS Roma while Klopp was in charge. He has won two Premier League titles, a Champions League title, an FA Cup, and two League Cups with Liverpool.
