UAE's Commitment to Supporting International Efforts for Sustainable Development

As part of its unwavering commitment to supporting global development, the United Arab Emirates continues to solidify its international presence as an active and reliable partner in UN efforts to promote sustainable development.

This was clearly demonstrated by its active participation in the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held in the coastal city of Awaza, Turkmenistan, from August 5 to 8.

Based on its strategic vision, the UAE affirms that participation in such conferences is not merely a matter of protocol, but rather reflects the wise leadership's commitment to working with the international community to address development challenges, enhance economic integration, and build a more stable and equitable environment for the people of the world.

The UAE delegation emphasized that sustainable development is a fundamental pillar of the country's policies, stemming from the conviction that the world cannot achieve prosperity in isolation from international cooperation.

Held once every ten years, the conference's importance lies in highlighting the challenges faced by some 570 million people living in landlocked developing countries, who struggle to access global markets due to geographical limitations, high transportation costs, and insufficient investment.

In this context, the UAE called for comprehensive solutions based on providing modern and resilient infrastructure, facilitating trade, and strengthening trade corridors to ensure these countries have fair opportunities to participate in the global economy.

Among the conference's themes, participants discussed the "Awaza Agenda for Action 2024-2034," adopted by the United Nations General Assembly. This agenda is based on five key pillars: structural transformation, infrastructure and connectivity, trade facilitation, regional integration, and building resilience.

The agenda also includes five strategic initiatives, most notably the establishment of a global infrastructure investment facility, regional agricultural research centers, and a high-level committee on free transit. Additional initiatives include initiatives to enhance digital connectivity and a dedicated trade action plan within the World Trade Organization.

In light of these efforts, the UAE affirms that its vision in this area aligns with its principles of supporting peace and development, recognizing that sustainable development is fundamental to building stable societies capable of confronting challenges.

The UAE leadership has emphasized its continued commitment to supporting all international efforts aimed at consolidating stability and achieving development, stemming from its belief that global challenges are shared and can only be addressed through effective cooperation.

In this context, the UAE is keen to ensure that its participation in these conferences is more than just symbolic; it is a practical contribution that translates into initiatives and partnerships that enhance the international community's ability to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The UAE understands that the success of these efforts requires the involvement of countries with advanced development expertise, offering knowledge, experiences, and successful practices, alongside financial and investment support.

Furthermore, the strategic dimension of the UAE's foreign policy is evident in making sustainable development a central pillar of its international relations, as the country works to build long-term partnerships with countries and international organizations.

This strengthens its contribution to shaping a more stable and balanced global future. On the sidelines of the conference, the UAE delegation's bilateral meetings focused on exploring avenues for cooperation in the energy, infrastructure, and transportation sectors, aligning with the nation's vision of supporting regional integration and building broad cooperation networks that benefit all parties.

These initiatives underscore the UAE's commitment to leveraging its expertise and resources to serve shared interests and promote global development. Through this approach, the UAE embodies its commitment to fostering sustainable development and solidifying its position as a leading nation in shaping a future based on cooperation and partnerships, reflecting its national aspirations and global vision.

With the launch of "We Are the UAE 2031," this path is further strengthened, positioning the UAE at the forefront of nations contributing to a better and more sustainable future for all the world's peoples.
