Vitamin B12 is an important and dangerous

Vitamin B12 is an important vitamin for the heart and brain, but too much of it is dangerous

"Its use is prohibited in some conditions, such as optic neuropathy, polycythemia, gout, and liver and kidney diseases, due to its extreme danger."

Researchers from China and Sweden have revealed that vitamin B12 may hold an effective key to reducing the severity of acute pancreatitis, a disease that hospitalizes millions annually and kills approximately 20% of those with severe cases.

However, according to a study conducted by scientists from Sichuan University in China and Linköping University in Sweden, high blood levels of this vitamin are associated with a significantly reduced risk of pancreatitis, making it a strong candidate for future preventative and therapeutic action for patients with pancreatic disease. It also offers an effective treatment for heart disease prevention, but it may pose significant risks to patients with liver and kidney disease.

In this regard, Dr. Alaa Ghaleb, Assistant Professor of Cardiology at the Faculty of Medicine at Sohag University, said that vitamin B12 "plays an important role in treating atherosclerosis, as well as in preventing heart attacks and strokes." He explained that this vitamin plays a significant role in producing cholesterol and raising the level of good cholesterol in the blood, which helps protect the body from atherosclerosis.

The cardiology professor warned those with certain medical conditions against its use, saying, "Its use is prohibited in certain conditions, such as optic neuropathy, polycythemia, gout, and liver and kidney diseases, due to its extreme danger to them. Excessive levels can cause liver disorders and rheumatoid arthritis."

He said that a vitamin deficiency can also be dangerous and cause other problems, "such as numbness in the extremities, difficulty concentrating, feelings of fatigue, lethargy, muscle weakness, severe anemia, rapid heartbeat, and nerve problems."
